In the face of millions of dollars in state cuts to public education, we urge you to vote "yes" on Measure E, because it's:

10. An Emergency: Without the parcel tax, AUSD will be forced to deal with dramatic declines in state funding by closing schools, laying off teachers, and getting rid of important educational programs like PE, music, art, sports, and AP courses

9. Easy: Measure E will be on a super convenient mail-in ballot that you can send in any time from May 26 to June 20, 2010.

8. Empowering: By refusing to absorb the state government's cuts to public education, we stand up for our children, our schools, and our community -- and we maintain local control over our district's funding and programs.

7.  Economical: By immediately replacing Measures A and H, Measure E provides an average tax cut of 25 percent to all commercial property owners.

6. Enhances Property Values: For less than an additional dollar a day, you can protect Alameda's property values from falling significantly and keep Alameda a safe, attractive, family-friendly place to live.

5. Effective: Alameda schools have some of the highest test scores in Alameda County. Passing a local parcel tax will help maintain those scores, as well as maintain local control over our funding and programs.

4. Enriching: Test scores aren't the only important measure of the quality of education; we want a school district that has the resources to provide a well-rounded education for all our students, including science, art, music, PE, GATE, high school sports, and AP programs, and vocational/career education.

3. Environmentally Sound: If schools close, parents will be driving their children across the island to larger, consolidated schools.  This will result in more traffic, more traffic jams, and more pollution on the island.

2. For Everyone: Revenue raised by this parcel tax will benefit every child in every public school on the Island, from Encinal to Earhart and from Bay Farm to Ruby Bridges.

1. About Education. Kids only have one chance to learn to think, develop a career path, and become young adults.  Our kids are counting on you to do the right thing.
